When someone near Kiambu Road needs a pharmacy, they rarely ask for directions. They pick up their phone and search. If your business does not show up clearly on Google Search and Maps, that customer goes to whoever does.
Pharmaclan Pharmacy, at Muthaiga Arcade on Kiambu Road, Nairobi, has worked with Jebilton Ventures on its website, brand and Google Business Profile. This story explains what that work involved, so that if you run a similar business you know what to expect before you ask for a quotation.
The starting point
Pharmaclan had no Google Business Profile. Customers searching for a pharmacy nearby on Google Search and Maps could not find it easily, even though the pharmacy was open, stocked and staffed.
That is a common position for established Nairobi businesses. The work is good and regular customers know where to go but new customers searching online see someone else first.
What we did
1. A brand to build on We designed Pharmaclan's logo, brand identity and brand guidelines, so the pharmacy looks the same on its sign, website, Google profile and printed materials.
2. A website built from scratch We built pharmaclanpharmacy.com to give customers one reliable place to check the pharmacy's services, location and contact details. The Google profile links to it.
3. A Google Business Profile, created and verified We created the profile, guided the pharmacy through Google's verification and completed the information customers look for:
🔳Categories: "Pharmacy" as the main category, with related categories that match what the pharmacy actually offers
🔳Services: a clear list, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines and delivery
🔳Business description: written for customers, not for search engines
🔳Location, opening hours and phone number: checked so customers can call or get directions with one tap
🔳Photos: real photos of the pharmacy
🔳Website link: pointing to the new website
The ongoing work
A Google profile is not a one-time job. Hours change, customers leave reviews and Google adds or changes features. Pharmaclan retains us for ongoing work on its Google profile and website, which includes:
🔳Regular Google posts about the pharmacy's services
🔳Responding to customer reviews
🔳Checking that the hours, contact details and services are still correct
🔳Website maintenance
This is what we call ongoing profile management. Some businesses only need a one-off set-up or optimization project instead. You can compare the three options on our Google Business Profile services page.
What the client says
"Before Jebilton, we were invisible on Google. Now customers call us and find their way to us directly from Google Maps. More people walk through our door every month because of their work."
Philip, Pharmaclan Pharmacy, Nairobi
What we do not promise
No one can guarantee a top position on Google Maps. Where a business appears depends on what the customer searched for, how far they are from the business, how complete and accurate the profile is and how well known the business is, including its reviews. Google explains this in its own guidance on local ranking.
What we can do is make sure your profile is eligible, verified, complete, accurate and active and that customers who find it can reach you easily. We also do not publish a client's private performance figures without their permission, which is why this story has none.
Is your business in a similar position?
Ask yourself these five questions:
1. Can you find your business on Google Maps by searching for your service and area, not just your business name?
2. Do you, or someone you trust, have owner access to your Google profile?
3. Are your opening hours, phone number and location correct today?
4. When did someone last reply to a Google review?
5. Does your profile link to a website that answers customers' basic questions?
If you answered "no" or "not sure" to two or more, your Google profile is probably costing you customers. For practical steps you can take yourself, read our guide to setting up a Google Business Profile in Kenya. Pharmacy owners can also read how Nairobi pharmacies get found on Google.
